Wushu featured as Medal Sport in 29th Summer Universiade: Li Mengnan from LZU wins 1st Wushu gold

The 29th Summer Univerisiade was held in Taipei, China from Aug. 19 to 30. On the morning of 27th, Li Mengnan, high-level Wushu athlete of LZU, also an undergraduate of 2015 of School of Management, crowned in men’s Long Fist event, which represented the first gold medal of Wushu contests at the Universiade, also the first Wushu gold medal clinched by the Chinese delegation. 

It is the first time that Wushu has been recognized as university sports by International Federation of University Sport (FISU), also the first time that LZUers have participated in the Summer Universiade since LZU was established. Before now, LZU has cultivated 5 Wushu world champions including Kan Wencong, 12 high-level athletes elected as members of China’s national Wushu team, which distinguishes itself as one of the important Wushu talent cultivation bases among China’s comprehensive universities.
