Lanzhou University Delegation Visits Universities and Institutions in Britain

From November 1 to 4, led by Secretary of the CPC Lanzhou University Committee (Party Secretary)Ma Xiaojie,the delegation visited Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, University of Leeds (UL), Loughborough University (LU) as well as University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

During the visit to Consulate-General of China in Manchester, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie met with Consul General Tang Rui and introduced the cooperation between LZU and British universities and scientific research institutions, as well as the purpose and expectations of this visit. He hoped that LZU could further foster the cooperation with British universities to enhance educational exchanges between China and Britain with the support of Consulate-General in Manchester.

Consul General Tang Rui stated that the Consulate-General in Manchester puts a premium on the higher education exchanges between China and Britain. As an important part of China's higher education landscape and one of the representatives of high-level universities in China, LZU has  profound academic strengths and cultural deposits, and should play a significant role in promoting and enhancing cooperation with British universities. The Consulate General will provide necessary support for the international development of LZU.

At UL, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie met with Interim Vice-Chancellor and President Prof. Hai-Sui Yu, and exchanged in-depth views on the cooperation between two universities and signed a cooperative memorandum. The delegation also held discussions with heads of stomatology, chemistry, electronic engineering, atmospheric science and mathematics of UL and reached consensus on joint cultivation of talents, joint degrees, exchange of teachers and share of curriculum resources.

At LU, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie met with Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation Prof. Dan Parsons, and had in-depth exchanges on cooperative education in earth sciences, scientific research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and so on. The delegation held full exchange with heads and experts in the fields of AI, engineering geology, engineering and physics, and civil engineering. Both sides reached a consensus on the establishment of an interdisciplinary workshop between LZU and LU.

At UWTSD, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie fully exchanged views on the operation and sustainable development of the Wales College jointly established by LZU and UWTSD with Vice-Chancellor Elwen Evans.


The delegation also paid visits to the School of Dentistry of UL, the National Center for Atmospheric Science (NCAS), the Engineering Laboratory and the Application Laboratory of 3D Printing Technology in LU.

During the visit, the delegation met with some alumni and LZU exchange students studying in Britain.
