On August 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) formally approved the establishment of “WHO Collaborating Centre for Guideline Implementation and Knowledge Translation” in Lanzhou University (LZU), which is one of the two collaborating research centers for the formulation, research and implementation of guideline across the world. Moreover, WHO appointed Prof. Yang Kehu and Dr. Chen Yaolong, from LZU’s Cochrane Center, as directors of the Centre.
“World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Guideline Implementation and Knowledge Translation” in LZU, led by LZU’s Cochrane Center, was jointly applied with School of Public Health, becoming the first approved collaborating centre in LZU and even in Gansu Province. The Cochrane Center of LZU has been cooperating with WHO since 2012, and has been engaged in fromulating three WHO guidelines. Besides, it translated and published the WHO Handbook for Guideline Development, and hosted the “2012 Lanzhou International Clinical Practice Guideline & GRADE Seminar”. It also conducted the research program committed by WHO, namely The Development of Evidence-Based Health Policy Briefs on Ageing and Health in China.
The approval of “WHO Collaborating Centre for Guideline Implementation and Knowledge Translation” not only represents LZU’s leading position of its evidence-based medicine research, but also constructs a higher platform for international exchanges of “Two World-Classes” construction of medical science in LZU. In view of LZU’s strength as a comprehensive university, the Centre will conduct its functions with the idea of global health and method of evidence-based medicine. Besides, it will focus on sanitation and health of countries alongside “the Belt and Road” and transfer the best research evidence and the most appropriate recommendation in medicine science, which aims to enhance evidence-informed health policy and improve health of nations along “the Belt and Road” , and to boost the construction of healthy Silk Road.
