LZU Research Team Summarizes the Chemical Diversity and Potentials for Drug Development of Phytoplankton

The research team led by Dr. Wang Xiaojuan from the School of Pharmacy, Lanzhou University (LZU), published a research review on Chemical Reviews in November 2024, entitled “The Chemistry of Phytoplankton” (Chem. Rev.2024, 124, 13099; DOI: 10.1021/acs.chemrev.4c00177; impact factor: 51.5.)

This review not only summarizes the absorption of carbon dioxide by phytoplankton and their influence on the environment and climate, but also delves into the structural determination, activity analysis, and chemical/biosynthetic processes of the compounds produced by phytoplankton, revealing the chemical diversity and potentials of their secondary metabolites for drug development. The team will continue to conduct the research of the chemical components of sponges in the deep-sea area of Alaska.
