2017 Grassland Forum of China, held in Nanchang of Jiangxi Province, was themed as “Towards Grassland Ecological Civilization” from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11. The forum was co-sponsored by Grassland Monitoring and Supervision Center Ministry of Agriculture, P.R. China and Chinese Grassland Society. Yu Kangzhen, vice-minister of Ministry of Agriculture of China, gave a speech in the forum. And Nan Zhibiao, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, reported on functions of grassland resources of China and Fang Jingyun, academician of Chinese Academy of Science, reported on theory and practice of grassland and animal husbandry. Prof. Zhang Zihe, Prof. Hou Fujiang and Prof. Shen Yuying from School of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology of LZU attended the forum.
Mr. Nan highlighted the importance of grassland ecological safety and protective measures through his report. Mr. Hou pointed out that establishing grassland agricultural system is one of the solutions to the imbalance and conflicts between grassland and livestock. Mr. Shen presided over the parallel session named “Transformation in Grassland and Animal Husbandry Development Mode Motivated by Technology Innovation” and gave comments targeting at the grassland ecological improvement and related technology innovations on the afternoon of Oct. 10.
Totally, 11 reports on the main sessions and 25 reports on parallel session were held. Representatives present at the meeting have made in-depth discussion about policy management, technology promotion, scientific research and other key and critical issues in grassland protection field so as to refine China’s macro strategy of maintaining grassland sustainability. All these contribute a lot to grassland ecological improvement.
