The Second China-Germany Joint Conference on Palaeontology was held in Yichang, China from October 10 to 14. Over 400 people from research institutions, universities and colleges, experts in fossil protection, scholars, distinguished guests and students from Germany, Spain, Poland, France, Japan and China attended the conference. The conference introduced the cutting-edge fields and research focuses of the current international palaeontology community and discussed scientific research ,teaching and cooperation of palaeontology in the 21st century.
Prof. Sun Bainian of School of Earth Science, LZU participated in the meeting with LZU doctoral student Dong Junling. Prof. Sun held the post of the chairman of the parallel session themed on the Biodiversity of Cenozoic Era and Climate Change. He gave a keynote speech named “Angiosperm fossils from the Oligocene in Guangxi, China and their biogeographical analysis” and Dong Junling gave an oral report named “Liquidambar (Altingiaceae) and Insect Herbivory from Middle Miocene of South China”, both of which got credit from representatives at the meeting. During the meeting, the representatives also visited the famous Sinian boundary line of China.
The conference is the second international conference held jointly by Palaeontological Society of China and Palaeontological Society of Germany after the successful holding of First China-Germany Joint Conference on Palaeontology in Georg-August-University of Göttingen in September 2013. On the opening ceremony, the launch ceremony of the International Fossil Day with Chinese Memorial was also conducted successfully. Entitled Critical Intervals in Earth History:Palaeontological Innovations, the abstract anthology of the conference was published by University of Science and Technology of China Press. Papers wrote by three graduate students of School of Earth Science, LZU were selected.
