From November 26 to November 30, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, NSFC(National Natural Science Foundation of China) and TRF(Thailand Research Fund) jointly held a Progress Report Meeting on 2016-2017 Joint Research Fund Project on Sino-Thai Climate Change and Meeting in Thailand. Prof. Suthipun Jitpimolmard, leader of Asia-Africa Division, Bureau for International Cooperation of NSFC, Director of TRF and Prof. Amnat Chidthaisong, representative of Thai Society for Research attended the meeting. Li Chongyin, Mu Mu, Zhang Renhe academician and other experts were present at the symposium and listened to the report. Prof.Wang Chenghai, from School of Atmospheric Sciences of LZU chaired the International (Sino-Thai) Cooperative Research Project "Characteristics and mechanism of extreme flood and drought events in the monsoon region of South Asia," and reported it to the audience.
Project collaborator Jerasorn Santisirisomboon, associate professor of Lankangheng University in Thailand, and Prof. Wang Chenghai jointly reported on the progress of the project "Variability Characteristics and Mechanism of Extreme Events in South Asian Monsoon Region under Changing Climate". The research results have been widely concerned and actively discussed.
During the conference, scientists from China and Thailand conducted in-depth discussions on the climate change of common concern and put forward the scientific issues to be focused on in the next step and the proposed areas for funding. They gave full play to the role of climate change research in the "Belt and Road".
