From November 16th to 29th, at the invitation of Professor Prem Krishna K.C, the chairman of the Nepalese Rock Mechanics Association, Professor Zhang Jingke, Associate Professor Chen Wen Wu, and other two, from the Collage of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, went to Kathmandu valley, Nepal, to carry out a 14-day scientific investigation, focusing on the post earthquake damage and the restoration of 7 world cultural heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, since the 2015 earthquake.
From the afternoon of November 17th to November 29th, the investigation team, accompanied by Suresh S. Shrestha, the director of the department of world cultural heritage protection of the Nepalese Bureau of Archaeology, visited 7 world cultural heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley, which were Changu Narayan Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square（including Bhimsen sthambha tower）,Swayambhunath,Bhaktapur Durbar square,Patan Durbar square,The Great Boudha Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple. They investigated in detail the characteristics of the 7 world cultural heritage sites, the destruction features of the world cultural heritage caused by the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the repair plan adopted in two years, and the effect of restoration and reinforcement since then. During the investigation, the team conducted in-depth exchanges with the main directors of Kathmandu Durbar Square management department and Swayambhunath management department, and discussed about the post earthquake restoration and reinforcement of the 2 world cultural heritage sites.
The results were well-recieved by the Nepalese Rock Mechanics Association and the Department of World Cultural Heritage Protection of the Nepalese Bureau of Archaeology. They said that the scientific investigation was the second cooperation between the two sides. Based on the fruitful results of the first investigation in 2015, the investigation of this time further promoted the cooperation between the two sides in Nepalese world cultural heritage restoration and reinforcement. Suresh S. Shrestha expressed his sincere thanks to the mission and looked forward to further cooperation with LZU in the post - earthquake recovery and protection of Nepalese world cultural heritage.
