Kick-off conference on project about arid and semi-arid region of North China funded by Natural Science Foundation of China

On 13rd March, two meetings were held in Lanzhou University , namely the kick-off conference of a major project of Natural Science Foundation of China (“The Response and Adaptation to the Climate Change and sensitive Ecosystem in Arid and Semi-arid Region of North China”),  and the second consulting conference of a consultation and evaluation project of Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led by academician Chen Fahu, the vice president of LZU (“The Evaluation of the Influences of Climate Change on Ecological Protective Forest in the Arid Region of North China and the Possible Solutions”). Relevant principals from National Natural Science Fund Committee, Yuan Zhanting, secretary of the Party committee in LZU, and An Lizhe, vice president of LZU, attended the conference and gave speeches. Several academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and more than 50 experts from Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Lanzhou University, and relevant institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the conference. Chen Fahu presides over the opening ceremony of the conference.

At the kick-off conference of the major project of Natural Science Foundation of China held in the morning of 13rd, Chen introduced the research background, implementation plan, and expected results of the project. The attendees gave recommendations on perfecting the implementation plan and coordinating all subjects. They also hoped that this project could not only achieve breakthroughs in scientific research, but it could also better serve the country.

At the Second conference of the consultation and evaluation project (“The Evaluation of the Influences of Climate Change on Ecological Protective Forest in the Arid Region of North China and the Possible Solutions”) by Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held in the afternoon of 13rd, the attendees discussed related hot topics and provided suggestions. On behalf of the project group, Chen extended gratitude to all experts present in the conference, and he said that further advice from relevant ministries and commissions, local governments and experts would be collected to perfect consulting report so as to give full play to the academician consulting project.
