IPCC’s team in China gives lectures on climate change in Lanzhou University

Qin Dahe, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as one of LZU’s outstanding alumnus, along with his team of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in China, gave a lecture of Review on the Science of Climate Change in Yuzhong Campus in the evening of March 12th. This lecture became one of LZU’s common courses for undergradustes. Pan Baotian, Vice Principal of LZU, responsible officers from Academic Affairs Office and the College of Earth Environmental Science, LZU, and over 140 teachers and students attended this lecture.

His first lecture was entitled “Development of the Science of Climate Change and Future Earth Plan”. With related concepts of climate change, its impact on human’s economic society and the research status quo, he elaborated the cutting-edge achievements of climate change explicitly.

He said this course would help students know more about the latest progress and hot issues on climate change research, gain more knowledge on the science of climate change, and be familiar with responding policies and measures, the choice of technology and global governance system. Moreover, this course was designed to improve students’ capabilities on independent thinking, expression and team work so that they can possess a multidisciplinary thinking pattern with global and holistic vision.

It is reported that that this course has been taught in many universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Besides Qin Dahe, other excellent alumnus of LZU like Xiao Cunde and Dong Wenjie will give lectures as well.
