Northwestern University Prof. Huang Yonggang visits Lanzhou University for academic exchange

At the invitation of Prof. Zhou Youhe and Prof. Wang Jizeng from the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, LZU, Prof. Huang Yonggang from the Northwestern University in America conducted academic exchanges and gave lectures on research progress in 3D microstructure manufacture led by mechanics of his research team in LZU on June 22nd. Prof. Huang is also a member of National Academy of Engineering in the United States, foreign associate of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign academician of European Academy of Sciences.

Before the lecture, Pres. Yan Chunhua and deputy Party Secretary Guo Qi met with Prof. Huang, and had an in-depth discussion on talents training, scientific research and evaluation methods. They reached a consensus on the development of LZU and the construction of related disciplines.

The report was held at the academic hall in Qilian Building. With a focus on the hot topics of 3D microstructure manufacture with soft electronic devices, Huang introduced how his team used the buckling theory of solid mechanics to design and product 3D microstructure manufacture in various shapes and functions with this electronic material.

Huang also discussed with young faculties of this College and highly appreciated LZU’s extraordinary efforts in mechanics of wind-blown sand movements, electromagnetic-solid mechanics and wavelet method for solving nonlinear problems. Besides, he gave sound suggestions to young fellows on how to select research topics and graduates cultivation issues.
