School of History and Culture opens 2018 Lanzhou University Summer School

On July 1st, the opening ceremony of "Golden City Lecture - 2018 Lanzhou University Summer School" was held in the lecture hall of library by the School of History and Culture. 38 participants from 13 universities of Hong Kong, Taiwan,  the United States, Germany, South Korea and Ukraine were involved. Prof. Yang Hongwei, dean of the School of History and Culture of Lanzhou University, Prof. Zheng Binglin, director of the Dunhuang Institute and all representatives of teachers and students attended the meeting.

Prof. Yang hopes that these courses and activities in LZU can help trainees learn more knowledge, deepen the understanding of the Northwest, broaden their horizons and enrich their experiences. Piccini Nathan from Montana State University and Shi Zijin from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology made a speech on behalf of all exchange students. They expressed their expectation for this summer school and their gratitude to relevant teachers.

From July 2nd to July 19th, 38 students studied the courses covering Silk Road Civilization and Dunhuang Culture, Northwest Geography and History, and the Modern Silk Road of China. Meanwhile, they also attended academic lectures on the Silk Road for three weeks. As for weekends, accompanied by LZU volunteers, the trainees walked out of the campus and set foot on the Silk Road to make an investigation of Gannan, Jiayuguan and Dunhuang. Combining the lectures and field trips, the trainees harvested a lot. In addition, the Chinese language, Chinese kung fu, calligraphy, paper-cutting, folk songs and other experiential courses were enjoyed by most trainees.

On July 20th, the closing ceremony and farewell dinner of the Summer School were held at the canteen of LZU Medical Campus.
