At the invitation of the School of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology, Prof. Osvaldo Esteban Sala, an academician from American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) and Argentina’s National Academy of Sciences, visited LZU and developed academic exchanges with LZU from July 18th to July 22nd. On July 19th, vice president Pan Baotian met with the guests at the Yifu Scientific Building with leaders from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the School of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology accompanied.
On behalf of Pres. Yan Chunhua, Pan warmly welcomed Prof. Sala and introduced the history, dominant discipline and research characteristics of LZU. They discussed climate change and ecological protection in arid areas, on which they have reached broad consensus. They thought that ecological environment in the arid zones played a vital role in global eco-construction, and sustainable development of arid areas bore important functions in economic growth and social stability worldwide. Pan wished the two universities could further their scientific research cooperation by holding field trip in pratacultural science, bringing in outstanding graduates to work and jointly applying Sino-American collaboration by teachers from both sides.
Prof. Sala also introduced general situation and featured projects of Arizona State University, along with its function of serving the society. He noted that the university with its inclusiveness specialized in talent training, and he wished the cooperation of two universities would be deepened by conducting more scientific communication.
